During an afternoon walk along a partially-frozen creek in SW Montana, I spent some time taking macro photographs of ice. I love the shapes and colors it occurs in, this solid state of water during cold, winter months.
Shortly before dark on the day of the solstice, I found a beautiful, rounded icicle hanging a few inches over flowing water from a ledge of shelf ice. My exposure was one second, and during that time a small drop of water fell from the ice into the reflection below, leaving me with the gift of a rose during the middle of winter.
This print has a modern-art feel and shows a scene from nature that will never present itself again. It's available as both a photographic print and as ready-to-hang art on aluminum.
