Thunder

Sometimes I'll get a certain shot in my head that, if I'm persistent enough, I know someday I'll capture. I've imagined a bull bison on a rise of a hill against a background of storm clouds for several years and on various occasions have come close to photographing the scene.

Finally, on my way down to Yellowstone's Larmar Valley to shoot the bison rut, I ran into a lone bull working his way along a ridge of sage as afternoon thunderheads swelled behind him. I slowly crept into position a few hundred yards ahead of where I last saw him, hoping he'd keep the same line, and then, crouching in the sage, waited.

It took him a while to come into view, but when he did I was treated to one of the best scenes I've photographed, shooting it in black and white for maximum contrast and effect.

This is available in editions  of 11 at several sizes. Each is signed and numbered and ships free to all lower 48 states. As a fine-art style photo, this looks striking in a frame. Contact me for options regarding framing, too, if you're interested.
