Early evening sun filters through clouds and the hazy air of late summer above Moon Lake, high in Montana's Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. This is one of my best landscapes, perfectly capturing a moment the type of which I spend thousands of hours outdoors looking for. It came together entirely by chance on a hike I took searching for cutthroat trout, proving once again that nothing beats being in the right place at the right time.
I doubt I will ever see sunbeams as pronounced as these over as beautiful a place again. The balance of light and shadow, water, snow, and rock, and foreground with sky is truly stunning.
