Northern Vermont's Willoughby Lake churns during a north wind and late-fall storm. This lake, like many in New England, was carved out as the last Ice Age retreated. As the glacier ground its way north, it left a deep void between Mount Pisgah and Hoar, now home to Vermont's largest lake trout and some of its coldest waters.
