Evening falls on the Madison Valley during mid-winter. While snow clouds form over the Sphinx, bands of sunlight stream onto the prairie as another day comes to a close.
This is a giant panorama shot in three rows with Nikon's 70-200mm lens. It has tack-sharp resolution, up to its native size at over three feet high by nearly ten feet long. It's a true 3:1 panorama and can be printed at that aspect ratio in any custom size. It combines lovely play of light and shadow, gorgeous clouds, and a sense of quiet so fitting for the winter.
This valley, famous for the river by the same name, is home to thousands of elk each winter, migrating out of the high country to spend the snowy months where there's better feed.
