A panoramic view of the head of Yellowstone National Park's Lamar River Valley, as a winter day flames out to another long night. I shot this image with Nikon's 500mm f4 telephoto for unparalleled detail, stitching a dozen individual shots together to form this sweeping image of rugged, Rocky Mountain peaks. As the final rays of sun light up hoar frost on trees crowning their summits, the river valley below has already fallen into deep shade, lending beautiful contrast to this scene. Dramatic clouds in shades of black, rose, cream, and white billow over the entire field of view, providing movement and a sense of foreboding.
