During a morning of unsettled spring weather at the foot of the Absaroka Beartooth Range in Montana, the lighting was perfect to show the inner luminance of new aspen leaves. It's a phenomenon that doesn't last more than a day or two, as ephemeral as the season itself. Soon these trees will move into the rich greens of summer, but on this morning, as fog billowed beyond burned fir, spring revealed herself in all her golden splendor.
