Eruption

Black Butte, the core of an extinct volcano in Montana's Gravelly Mountain Range, provides the perfect foreground for this large, mid-summer Milky Way shot. I shot this image using more than 40 photos taken at 105mm on a clear, early-August night this past summer, and it appears as if our galaxy is erupting from this peak in a display of stars instead of lava. The bright "star" on the left-hand side is the planet Jupiter. This is available here at 30x30 on the finest aluminum for perfect resolution and nighttime sheen.
