Beehive Lake

A tough climb north of the popular Beehive Basin, lies Beehive Lake. Ice persists here well into July, and hadn't completely melted when I took this photo toward the end of the month. I backpacked 60 pounds of astrophotography gear into this remote bowl, catching a few hours' worth of sleep in a garbage-bag (looking for any way possible to save weight). The mosquitoes were nearly unbearable, small and voracious, but the view after dark was well worth it. Jupiter and Saturn are both visible just above the horizon, and the calm waters of the lake showed a gorgeous reflection of land and sky.

This is a 1:1 aspect ratio print, offered at 30x30 on the world's best aluminum with many other sizes available upon request. It is part of a limited-edition run of 25 prints.
