A sun dog appears in a dramatic, winter sky of blue and clouds during later afternoon in the Soda Butte Valley of Yellowstone National Park, shining over a mature bull bison. I worked hard for this shot, spending over an hour trying to get myself into a position where I could capture both the bison and the sun dog. There were times when the rainbow vanished and others when it was more vibrant than seen here, but this was the only opportunity that I had to capture both animal and sky together in a scene that looked good.
