The Afterlife

This is a 2:1 panorama shot with Nikon's 70-200mm f4 lens at 78mm. It's a natural image, with nothing superimposed, showing the crest of a ridge in Montana's Pryor Mountain range standing in front of the core region of our Milky Way galaxy.

This shot took some planning, and a long drive in the very early morning hours of an April night to capture the scene I wanted. Augmented reality apps, like PhotoPills, allow me to scout locations at any time of the day or year and quickly determine where the Milky Way will be positioned on future nights. I located this great, dead fir a couple of years before taking this photo, crossing my fingers for a clear night during early spring when I could stitch together the image that I wanted.

This is offered at three sizes, both on Pure Art Printer's proprietary aluminum, a perfect way to framelessly display a nightscape. Shipping is included in the price to anywhere in the lower 48.
