When I spent the night in Montana's Beehive Basin early in April this spring, it didn't look anything like its summer self. After an arduous trek by snowshoe with more than 50lbs of camping and photography gear, I had to dig down through several feet of snow to set up my tent. As the Milky Way became visible about 4:30am, arcing low across the horizon, my August, 2019 shoot in this remote, Spanish Peaks basin seemed a lifetime ago.
This is a rare look at a sliver of our universe from one of my favorite places in SW Montana during opposite seasons. Nothing in these photos is superimposed or taken out of place. They are the result of many individual shots taken at exposure lengths between 30 seconds and three minutes and then dozens and dozens of hours of editing.
This piece is offered on Pure Art Printer's proprietary aluminum. Using a dye sublimation process, the ink is baked to the metal for astounding resolution, color, and durability. It has all the resolution of photo paper in a sleek, frameless look with a hidden bracket on the reverse for stability and ease of hanging.
At a complete size of 19x56 inches, this makes a gorgeous centerpiece for any wall, showcasing two seasons in the alpine country of Montana at night.
