Crazy Beautiful

Paintbrush and bluebells fill the foreground at sunset just west of Crazy Peak, the highest mountain in Montana's Crazies. This island range is home to mountain goats and wolverines, and hosts more than a dozen alpine lakes. After a wet spring, the wildflowers in July were as spectacular as any I've ever seen.

While spending time in remote places like this and capturing these landscapes is always fulfilling for me, it's often the moments there that I don't photograph which linger the longest. On this evening, after I'd finished shooting and the light was fading by the minute, I had a calliope hummingbird hover less that five feet away while she sipped from a drooping bluebell.

I can promise anyone, whether you're a photographer or not, that spending time in wild places is always worthwhile.

This is a 1:1 print shot at 55mm with top focus in the center of these flowers, drawing your eye into a scene more beautiful than any botanical garden. It's offered at a variety of sizes on both ready-to-hang aluminum and as an archival-quality paper print. Each is signed and numbered and ships free.
