Emigrant Peak

A late-winter Milky Way arcs over Montana's Emigrant Peak just east of the Yellowstone River in Paradise Valley. I took this image on March 11, 2019 at 5:05am when the temperature was sixteen degrees below zero. It was a beautiful, clear night, and also the coldest I've captured our night skies. As the seasons progress, the gassy core of our galaxy will become visible earlier and earlier at night until, during July, it's above the horizon as soon as it gets dark.
