A Storm At Sea

Over an ocean of wildflowers in Montana's Absaroka Beartooth Mountains, a summer storm takes shape on the horizon. The mountain bloom is one of my favorite natural phenomenas, occurring in early July each year. After more than nine months of dormancy, flowers explode on the land during a few brief days. The level of insect activity as bees, butterflies, and flies rush to pollinate millions of blossoms is incredible, often audible even over the persistent wind that blows at high elevation.

This is a striking capture that truly approximates what my eye took in during this late afternoon. It is available as a 2:1 panorama in two popular sizes, but contains enough resolution to print much larger.
