4am In The Spanish Peaks

The April Milky Way carves open the sky above the Lee Metcalf Wilderness in Montana's Spanish Peaks Range. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the galactic center of our home galaxy doesn't rise above the horizon this time of year until after 3am. That means a long hike in the middle of the night, but the view - at high altitude in low humidity - is always worthwhile.

I shot this with Nikon's D850 and a 50mm prime lens, combining several portrait-oriented photos to create a standard, 2:3 landscape oriented print. It's got tack-sharp resolution, even at its largest size, and a perfect, cold night feel. It's available as both a standard photographic print and as ready-to-hang aluminum art. Each piece is signed and numbered and part of an edition of 50.
