Our Nearest Neighbor

The moon is the brightest object in the night sky and our Earth's nearest neighbor. We have, as a species, been fascinated by it for millennia, and I am no exception.

Rising here at about 80 percent full, it crested Montana's Absaroka Beartooth, shining during early evening over a mix of burned forest and high meadows. To show it in proper perspective, I shot at 105mm, using more than 100 images to form this panorama. I love the black and white feel, though the alpenglow was unread this evening. This is available as a custom, signed and numbered piece of art on traditional, archival-quality photo paper and also ready-to-hang aluminum.
