No words this time, just images. The following are actual photographs, taken of real butterfly wings at nearly 200x magnification. The process is almost as tedious as it would be if I explained it here, and yes, I have manipulated these images out of camera. What I haven't done is add a single thing, brush in the tiniest of designs, draw a single line, or change an ounce of color. I have let the natural design of the scales on these wings serve as the blueprint for this art, following the symmetry and flow of their design until I arrive at something I like. To my knowledge, I am the only person in the world of photography to have done this. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I did creating them. The natural world, from the largest of its species to the smallest details of its most minute creatures, is a wondrous thing.

Earth has been honored by all types of beauty. We are fortunate enough to have such a talented man, who understands it like no other, share his extraordinary vision.

Hi Jake, I have been enjoying your nature photographs and now these butterflies so much. One of them looks like Winnie the Pooh to me. I have such fond profound childhood memories of you as a little kid teaching me about monarchs. We brought a caterpillar you had picked out for me back to Syracuse in a coffee can with some milkweed. I can still see the beautiful green chrysalis and then impossibly frail rumpled creature that emerged- we novices were horribly worried. But before long it became so strong and capable. Butterflies represent so much about hope and transformation and delicate things being strong, of course. Thank you for the profound butterfly lessons from little Jake, and for the beautiful art of today.

Wow! Reminds me of a favorite framed piece my daughter EmEm has from someone special in Montana😉

Your images expose miracles I would never otherwise see…not in an entire lifetime of looking. Mesmerizing, Many thanks, Jake!
